INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE AND CHAMPISSAGE

Massage has always played an important part in Indian life. It features as far back as 4000 years in ayurvedic text, ( an Indian system of health care and preventative medicine dating back 5ooo years meaning 'the science of life') and is probably the oldest form of medical treatment.

Head massage derives from a rich family tradition in India of massage. It was originally developed by women as part of their grooming routine to keep their hair lustrous and in beautiful condition. Barbers too practised many of the same skills, designed mainly to stimulate and refresh the individual. Indian head massage also know as 'champissage' is a technique that has been researched and developed by narendra mehta and introduced to the UK in the early 1980's. It focuses on the areas of the body which are most affected by tension. The upper back neck shoulders upper arms, scalp and face. The three higher chakras can also be worked on which is unique to champissage.
